Organizational Tip - Trays!

While we're on the topic of organizing, one of my favorite topics I must say; I thought I would share one of my personal must-have organizational items - the tray!  I'm addicted to buying trays, and I use them all over my house.  They are great for corralling those random items that you need easy access to.  Plus you can find really cute ones and they're almost always affordable.

Here's some examples of how I use them in my own home.

In my office to keep everyday office supplies in one space instead of spread all over our desk.

In my bedroom I actually use a cute dinner plate in place of an actual tray for lotions and perfume, don't judge my cheap perfumes.

A tray also can be nice as a strictly decorative item.  I have one in my living room behind the sofa holding a few room accessories just to break up the sofa-table a little. 

And finally in my baby girl's room to hold all those baby necessities.

Keeping Your Home Organized

Just like weight loss, home organization seems to be a new year resolution staple.  Personally, mine is always to stop biting my nails like a weirdo, and 2013 is gonna be my year I tell you!  A couple years ago I did a presentation on home organization for my women's church group.  I put together a little PowerPoint document for it; and I realized I've never shared it on my blog, so I thought now would be the perfect time! 

I used a combination of inspirational images from various sources, as well as photos from my own home.    

 

 This is how my office looked before we turned this room into the nursery.  I'm still working on our new office!

How To Hide Your Computer Cords

Truth bomb: this post will not contain pretty pictures.  My office is still very much in progress, but today I organized my computer cords that have been driving me cray cray.  My husband hates when I say "cray cray".

Here are my ugly cords, bleh.

I bought some of these "Mug Hooks" at Wal-Mart for about 2 bucks.  They are peel and stick.

Then I stuck my hooks along the bottom of my desk like so.  I knew the power pack to my lap top was going to be too heavy for the peel and stick hooks, so I attached two screw-in hooks to hang it on.

Here's how it looked once I strung the cords through, and hung up the power pack.

Ta-da!!  No more cords!

Closet Love

Tart House Design : Client's Office

Here are the before and afters for an office install that my mom and I did over the weekend! We helped this client organize and accessorize her room, integrating some of the things she already owned, including all of her furniture. Because of this, we were able to stick to her budget of $300 for the whole room.

This client's needs for her office were pretty unique. She works from home; and in the morning while checking her e-mail at her desk, she also does her make-up and hair. So she requires a hybrid office/vanity situation. This was her set-up before we stepped in.

We found this desk at IKEA in the as-is section (even though we couldn't find anything wrong with it) for $50!

In addition to helping her organize her vanity area, we also took on her armoire where she keeps pictures, craft supplies, etc. It was in dire need of an overhaul.

Just shows what organization, a few new accessories, and some rearranging can do!

New Bookshelf

This is the sad little bookshelf I had in my office that I've been needing to upgrade.


Well on Saturday my mom and I went to Ikea to shop for a client, and I picked up this little ditty for myself. Went with the tried and true Expedit.











I'm feeling much more organized.

The Garage

Whenever I talk about sprucing up our garage my husband roles his eyes and says, "It's just a garage."

But look how pretty it could be!
